Why we focus on the
Nexus of Energy, Water, and Soil
Energy. Energy is measured by the ability to do work. We design energy projects based on the ability to do sustainable work measured against the Triple Bottom Line. Accelerating innovations in materials science, digital technologies, 3-D printing, and economies of scale are delivering on the promise for clean, safe energy and energy efficiency solutions. In addition to our Anaerobic Digester energy projects (see Soil), VITAL deploys best-in-class energy efficiency solutions for SmartBuildings & SmartCampuses, plus innovative hydrogen teams to form a collaborative network of next generation solutions. The problem remains access. VITAL accelerates energy projects by working with partnerships for UN SDG-7 and SEforALL. We are committed to maximizing the goals for universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. |
Water. Water is life. 75% of the earth's surface is covered in water. Our bodies are composed of 60% water. Plants also rely on water to grow. Through photosynthesis, plants provide the oxygen we breathe in addition to the food we eat and the medicines that heal us. They also help purify the water we drink, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and provide habitat for wildlife. Our ecological health hangs in the balance of healthy water and nourishing plants that surround us. VITAL's water revitalization solutions remove dissolved solids from water using breakthrough clean technology, requiring very low energy inputs. In addition VITAL integrates patented innovative de-watering technologies, utilizing food-grade additives and low energy inputs for comprehensive water solutions targeting contaminated lakes and watersheds, as well as industrial de-watering and process water clean-up projects. |
Soil. Soil is the foundation of civilization. Communities settled and thrived based on their ability to nurture healthy soils. Long before exotic foods were traded around the globe, soil was steadily nurtured for successful harvests, year after year. Part of our team DNA includes the soil heritage that included hand-carrying buckets of kelp up to fields from the seashore in order to build up soils from compost on rocky outcrops in the west of Ireland. Soils are living ecosystems structured as a composite of micro-layers of minerals and microbes. When soil is healthy, it's friable and pliable, capable of hosts living networks that sequester carbon for thousands of years which can provide nutrients to plants and trees released over time. These plants in turn clean the air we breathe and provide nutritious food and medicines. VITAL integrates Anaerobic Digestion and pyrolysis to transform organic waste and woody feedstocks into energy offtakes, as well as important soil amendments like compost, compost teas and Biochar to improve soil health. No incineration. No ash. |
Sustainability is performance art. It keeps us on our toes.
|
It's dawned on many of us that we need to reframe everything we think we know and repurpose all of our personal, professional and team expertise to achieve the Trifecta of NetZero Energy, Water and Waste.
|
Sustainability is not mere survival.
Resilience is not just another word for Security.

VITAL curates cleantech solutions that resonate with stakeholder purpose, pace, and sense of place. We collaborate together with our project stakeholders to build sustainable projects for the Triple Bottom Line -- profit, people, planet.
To thrive, we tip our thinking on its head as we discover what we once wasted as liabilities are in fact feedstocks in the new Circular Organics Economy.
Our projects are designed to minimize risk and maximize benefits. We apply sustainable project finance including bonded cleantech components, credit enhancements, insurance wraps and ESCO finance.
We develop projects that start with the end in mind and analyze project metrics against global benchmarks to ensure beneficial outcomes are replicable and optimized for our stakeholders.
